A Heartwarming Visit from Lochnell School

At Etive House Care Home, we were recently treated to a delightful visit by the Primary 1 and Primary 2 children from Lochnell School. Thirty-five young pupils joined us for a day full of joy, stories, and companionship, an experience that our residents and the children really enjoyed.

Organised jointly by the school and our dedicated Activity Coordinators, this visit aimed to entertain both our residents and the children, while fostering a special bond between two generations that don’t often get the chance to interact.

Bridging Generations with Stories and Laughter

We were all so excited when the children arrived to share the morning with our residents. The day was filled with a blend of reading sessions and interactive storytime, where both the children and residents took turns sharing tales. It wasn’t just about the stories, though. There was laughter, playful conversation, and an unmistakable sense of warmth as the residents and children enjoyed each other’s company. This lovely visit from the schoolchildren was a great way to support the healthy ageing of our residents at our care home in Benderloch.

For many of our residents, who have families living far away or may no longer have close friends or family around, the visit was particularly special. Being surrounded by the vibrant energy of children, sharing a laugh, or simply enjoying a moment of companionship, brought joy and lifted spirits. It was a beautiful reminder of the importance of human connection, regardless of age.

A Learning Experience for the Children

The benefits of the visit weren’t one-sided. For the children, spending time with our residents was an invaluable learning experience. They were given the opportunity to develop important life skills, such as patience, understanding, and empathy. Interacting with people from a different generation allowed them to see life from a new perspective.

A Community Effort for Positive Change

The visit wasn’t just a memorable experience for our residents and the children; it was also a great example of community collaboration. The school, with the support of our Activity Coordinators, demonstrated how different generations can come together to create meaningful interactions. This is exactly the kind of initiative that helps strengthen community bonds, reminding us all of the value of togetherness, learning, and compassion.

We are incredibly grateful to the teachers and staff at Lochnell School for organising this wonderful visit and look forward to more opportunities to bring generations together in the future. The day was a bright spot in the lives of our residents, and we are sure the children also gained much from the experience. We hope this special bond between our care home and the school will continue to flourish, bringing even more smiles, stories, and shared moments in the future.

Etive House is Part of the Community

We look forward to many more collaborations with local schools and community groups, continuing to enrich the lives of our residents and strengthen our ties with the community.
