Honouring Remembrance Day
This Remembrance Day, the staff and residents at Etive House Care Home spent the day honouring those who fought and died in World War One.
It was important to us at Etive House Care Home that we took part in this memorial day to honour those who fought and died in World War One, but even more so as one of our very own residents, Dolina Harrison, previously served in the Second World War.
Dolina, also called "Dolly", recently turned 99, and proudly wore her service medal on Remembrance Sunday, touching everyone's hearts with her stories from her time serving in the RAF.
Dolly was one of the very few women who were trained to work on Spitfires and she served as a flight mechanic.
Proudly serving in the RAF for 5 years, Dolly reminisced on this time, sharing her memories, thoughts, and feelings with the other residents and staff members. One memory in particular that Dolly shared was that she remembered how hard it was to witness the fear in the young pilot's eyes.
On behalf of all the staff here at Etive House Care Home in Oban, we thank you for your service Dolly and we will never forget the sacrifices that you and many others made.
