We Welcome Back Therapy Ponies Scotland

At Etive House Care Home, we're always looking for new ways to create meaningful experiences for our residents, and this November proved to be no exception. It was a month filled with a few new experiences, a wee bit of nostalgia, and plenty of community spirit as we welcomed back Therapy Ponies Scotland, enjoyed outings to reconnect with old friends, and observed Remembrance Sunday together as a home.

The highlight of the month was undoubtedly the return visit from our friends at Therapy Ponies Scotland. Their arrival was eagerly anticipated, and they didn’t disappoint! The ponies, travelling in their custom van, delighted residents from the moment they stepped out. Residents were amazed to see them being fitted with their wee trainers to prevent them from damaging the floors

The ponies visited each and every resident who wanted to see them, including those unable to leave their beds. It was amazing to see the reaction of those residents on seeing a pony walking into their bedroom. For residents who had once worked with horses or kept them in their younger years, the visit brought back wonderful memories, sparking conversations and stories from days gone by.

This return visit was planned perfectly for November, a time when the days are shorter, the weather cooler in Argyll and Bute, and Christmas preparations are still just on the horizon. The ponies brought a much-needed boost of cheer to both residents and staff, lifting spirits in what could otherwise be a quieter time of year.

Beyond the ponies, residents enjoyed a variety of outings, including lunches and afternoon teas, where many reconnected with old friends from the wider community. These opportunities to get out and about not only created moments of happiness but also strengthened our links with the local community, which is so important to us as a home.

November also marked our annual observance of Remembrance Sunday and Remembrance Day. Residents gathered together on Sunday to watch the laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph. The quiet reflection and shared moments were a poignant way to honour those who served, and it gave us all time to pause and reflect.

This month’s activities sparked smiles, stories, and connections, particularly for residents who may not always feel inclined to participate in other events. Seeing the joy on their faces and hearing their laughter as the ponies trotted by or as old friends reconnected over tea was a lovely reminder of why these events are so important.

At Etive House Care Home, we are committed to ensuring every month offers new opportunities for joy, no matter the season. We are now looking forward to the festive spirit of December and all the magic it will bring. If you'd like to know more about the activities we enjoy at our home, please get in touch.
